  1. I had a stroke 2 years ago and also laugh at inappropriate moments. Same thing happens with crying. I was at a doctor appointment and started laughing uncontrollably and then started crying and couldn’t get stopped. So it IS a thing.

  2. It can happen. Strokes can permanently change the victim’s emotions and/or the way those emotions are expressed. That being said, I can’t speak to the validity of this particular picture. I don’t know that anyone can.

  3. Seeing as the funeral head looks exactly like the man standing with wife head… I would say that it’s fake

  4. In neurologist Oliver Sachs’ very interesting collection of neurological vignettes, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, he describes a very elderly woman with sudden onset permanent euphoria. He figures out that she actually has tertiary syphilis (syphilis affecting her brain) and he gives her penicillin to cure the syphilis as he would need to do, but he also noted that he basically affixed her in a state of you for euphoria for the rest of her life (arresting the brain infection at its current state of “ damage”)which he and the patient were pretty happy about…
Anatomically I think it’s perfectly possible.

  5. The story is real, his name was Malcolm Myatt. Don’t know if the funeral photo is real though..
    Edit: his name was…. (sadly)

  6. After my mother’s mini stroke she turned into a wonderful cuddly grandmother. Sadly it didn’t last and she was back to her usual caustic self in a week or so.

  7. This reminds me of a post I saw about parents not knowing texting abbreviations. A mom sent everyone in the family saying ‘one of her aunts died lol’. She thought ‘lol’ meant lots of love. Her kids asked her what she thought it was meant.

  8. Reminds me of that Barenaked Ladies song “One Week”:

🎶 I’m the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral…can’t understand what I mean? Well, you soon will. 🎶

  9. I took care of a patient who had this. He would laugh at everything. It was awful for him. He told us about horrible he felt. Because it was inappropriate at times. He couldn’t be his authentic self.

  10. Knew a guy in college who got into a car accident and after recovering had (not sure how to phrase it) damage to his brain which caused him to be in a constant state of euphoria, there’s more to the story but that’s the gist of it. Sweetest guy I knew, always happy to talk to anyone and everyone.

  11. Maybe a thing, maybe not.

That, however, is almost certainly a photo of a couple of lottery winners celebrating.
